FAQ.

Why don’t you offer reformer classes?

Because our current studio doubles as an event space, reformers would be a hard machine to store safely. However, they are an machine that we will be incorporating into an SC Pilates Studio in the very near future, so keep your eyes peeled!

Can I still achieve the same results doing mat work as I would on a reformer?

Absolutely! The main different is the AMOUNT of exercises and modifications that you can do. Reformers offer a broader range of exercises and modifications of those exercises, but if you commit to your mat work routine, you will achieve the same results. In some cases, mat work is harder as you are using your own body weight and equipment (balls, circles and bands), to achieve the movement, rather than the assistance of springs and pulleys on the reformer.

What Qualification do you hold?

I hold certifications in Pilates Matwork, Advanced Matwork, Ball-Circle-Band and Reformer.

Can I do Pilates when I’m pregnant?

Yes Pilates is perfect for pre and postnatal! All pre and postnatal clients must start with a private studio session first before attending any group glasses. We reserve the right to ask for a certificate from your doctor before starting your classes both before and after birth (we want to make sure that everything is 100% safe for you and bub).

I’ve never done Pilates before, can I still join in?

Absolutely! All new clients must attend an orientation class, or private class, before attending general group classes to ensure that you are completely aware of the Pilates Principles. Our instructors are highly trained in an exclusive queuing formula which means that they are able to perfectly talk you through each exercise so that it’s easy to not only understand, but to perform.

I have an injury – can I still attend classes?

You can, however it does depend on the nature of your injury. We encourage you to talk to you doctor before you come to class and we may reserve the right to ask for a doctors certificate. We must be made aware of any injuries prior to the class as exercises can often be adapted to take your injury into account. If our instructors are not comfortable with adapting the workout to suit your injury, or feel you shouldn’t be working out, we reserve the right to exclude you from the class (sorry guys, but we don’t want to be the ones that made your standard injury a super bad one!)

What should I wear/bring?

Please wear comfortable work out clothes. We will be doing movements where shirts may lift, so unless you feel like a bit of flashing, we recommend that clothing be as fitted as you feel comfortable with (remember; we’re all about body positive vibes, so there’s no judging on what you wear! Wear your pj’s should you feel the need!). While not always necessary, we do also recommend socks. Please also bring your own water bottle should you require hydration!

What is Pilates and how does it work?

Pilates is an innovative system of mind-body exercise using a floor mat and/or a variety of equipment created by Joseph Pilates. Pilates is one of the most effective work outs for all body types due to the principles of how it targets your muscles and joints. Not only will Pilates help assist with body toning, enhancing physical strength and improving posture it also has many mental health benefits such as improved concentration, stress management and relaxation and improve your overall well being and happiness!
